Frequently Asked Questions

What does the name Pret A Manger mean?

Pret A Manger means "Ready to Eat" in French - all food is prepared in convenient "grab-and-go" packaging using natural ingredients that are delivered fresh to every shop's kitchen each morning.

Why aren't the nutritional details of your sandwiches on the boxes?

The volume of sandwiches, baguettes and wraps that our teams produce takes an awful lot of hard work and skill. Asking them to then select the right box for the right sandwich is, to be honest, one step more than we are currently prepared to ask of them. A full nutritional breakdown can be found in our menu section. If you want to know about something while in the shop any member of the team will happily find this out for you, or you could always call us on 646-728-0505 in business hours (EST) or you can visit the Our Food section.

Is it true you're owned by McDonald's?

In January 2001, the McDonald's Corporation based in Chicago bought a 33% minority stake in Pret A Manger. Their international influence and expertise helped in our expansion beyond the UK (something clamoured for by the thousands of tourists who visit our shops each week). McDonald's did not have any direct influence over what we sold or how we sold it. In 2008, Pret A Manger was sold to Bridgepoint which brought an end to the relationship with McDonald's. Pret A Manger management retains 33% of the company.

Franchising (we don't)

Sorry we don’t. Please don’t call us and ask for a franchise because we don’t; we really don’t. We don’t franchise. The fact is, we don’t like to franchise, so we don’t.
